An opportunity has arise for a mixed ASIC Architect. As a mixed ASIC architect, you are responsible for driving the definition, development and the verification of next-generation hearing implantable ASIC solutions. The work is done in close collaboration with the ASIC team in Belgium, colleagues in other sites and with design partners to achieve first time right designs. This role requires a strong background in analogue and digital design in order to derive chip requirements for the underlying subcomponents and to make intelligent system-level tradeoffs in the architecture design.

Keys Responsibilities

• Provide final sign off of ASIC technical design files from ASIC suppliers.
• Responsible for high quality ASIC requirements, design documentation and working closely with the ASIC vendor to ensure optimal design tradeoff decisions are made.
• Work with the cross functional development teams to develop chip architectures and requirements that provides a good partition between hardware, ASIC and software/firmware functions
• Provide expert guidance to other cross functional teams.
• Ensure quality by thorough design review, characterization and qualification of final silicon.


• Continuously improve design, verification and validation methods.
• Champion ASIC implementation and methodology best practice.
• Ensure ASIC development processes are defined, documented and followed by the team and external suppliers.


• Support planning of Product and Technology roadmaps
• Develop a deep understanding of the Product roadmap through personal involvement and engagement.
• Ensure valuable IP is captured and disclosed in line with their IP processes.
• Contribute to future ASIC platform definition and directions for Cochlear products.
• Assess new Custom Integrated Circuit technologies relevant to current and future projects.


Key requirements:

Minimum:
• Tertiary Qualifications – minimum Bachelor Degree in Electronic Engineering
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in analog and digital Custom Integrated Circuit development
• Good knowledge of ASIC design environment and design methodology.
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Experience leading a team of design engineers.
• Travels may be needed but not required on a frequent basis.


Ideal:
• The ideal candidate has a proven track record in design and architecture roles, and is accustomed to collaborating in cross-functional R&D groups including hardware, firmware and software, and recognises the importance of communication and documentation. Knowledge of embedded micro-controllers and DSPs and their peripheral IPs.
• Knowledge of several standard interfaces, such as I2C, SPI, I2S, etc.
